MENARA BABEL DI MASA SEKARANG INI
“Itulah sebabnya sampai sekarang nama kota itu disebut Babel, karena di situlah dikacaubalaukan TUHAN bahasa seluruh bumi dan dari situlah mereka diserakkan TUHAN ke seluruh bumi.” Kejadian 11:9.
“Orang-orang Babel telah bertekad untuk mendirikan pemerintahan yang independen dari Allah. Akan tetapi, beberapa di antara mereka masih ada yang takut kepada Allah… Mereka yang takut kepada Allah ini berseru kepada-Nya untuk campur tangan… Allah bersabar terhadap kejahatan manusia, memberi kesempatan untuk bertobat. Dari waktu ke waktu tangan yang tak terlihat terulur untuk menahan kejahatan. Bukti yang tak terbantahkan diberikan bahwa Sang Pencipta alam semesta adalah Penguasa Tertinggi langit dan bumi. Tidak seorang pun dapat dengan bebas menentang kuasa-Nya!” EP 72.2-3.
“Ada pembangun-pembangun menara yang sama seperti ini di zaman kita. Orang-orang kafir menganggap diri mereka dapat menjatuhkan hukuman atas pemerintahan moral Allah. Mereka membenci hukum-Nya dan membanggakan kecukupan akal budi manusia. Kemudian, “karena hukuman terhadap perbuatan jahat tidak segera dilaksanakan, maka hati manusia penuh niat untuk berbuat jahat.” Pengkhotbah 8:11. EP 72.4.
“Banyak orang berpaling dari ajaran Alkitab yang jelas dan membangun keyakinan ataupun kepercayaan dari spekulasi manusia dan dongeng yang sekedar menyenangkan. Mereka menunjuk “menara” mereka sebagai jalan untuk naik ke surga. Bibir yang fasih itu telah mengajarkan bahwa pelanggar tidak akan mati, bahwa keselamatan dapat diperoleh tanpa menaati hukum Allah. Jika para pengikut Kristus yang mengaku mau menerima standar Allah, itu akan menyatukan mereka, tetapi selama hikmat manusia ditinggikan di atas Firman-Nya yang kudus, akan ada perpecahan dan pertikaian. Kebingungan ataupun kekacauan yang ada dari kepercayaan-kepercayaan dan sekte-sekte yang saling bertentangan ini secara tepat diwakili oleh istilah “Babel,” yang nubuatnya berlaku untuk gereja-gereja yang hanya mencintai dunia pada akhir zaman.” Lihat Wahyu 14:8; 18:2.
“Waktu penyelidikan Allah sudah dekat. Kuasa kedaulatan-Nya akan dinyatakan; pekerjaan kesombongan manusia akan direndahkan.” EP 73.1-2.
TODAY’S TOWER OF BABEL
“Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.” Genesis 11:9.
“The men of Babel had determined to establish a government independent of God. Some among them, however, feared the Lord… Those that feared the Lord cried unto Him to interpose… God bears long with the perversity of men, giving opportunity for repentance. From time to time the unseen hand is stretched out to restrain iniquity. Unmistakable evidence is given that the Creator of the universe is the Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth. None can with impunity defy His power!” EP 72.2-3.
“There are tower builders in our time. Infidels presume to pass sentence upon God’s moral government. They despise His law and boast of the sufficiency of human reason. Then, “because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” Ecclesiastes 8:11.” EP 72.4.
“Many turn from the plain teachings of the Bible and build up a creed from human speculations and pleasing fables. They point to their “tower” as a way to climb up to heaven. Lips of eloquence teach that the transgressor shall not die, that salvation may be secured without obedience to the law of God. If the professed followers of Christ would accept God’s standard, it would bring them into unity, but so long as human wisdom is exalted above His holy Word there will be divisions and dissension. The existing confusion of conflicting creeds and sects is fitly represented by the term “Babylon,” which prophecy applies to the world-loving churches of the last days.” See Revelation 14:8; 18:2.
