BANYAK MEMBACA DAN MENGERTI ALKITAB
“Bagian-bagian dari pada kitab itu, yakni Taurat Allah, dibacakan dengan jelas, dengan diberi keterangan-keterangan, sehingga pembacaan dimengerti.” Nehemia 8:9.
“Semua membutuhkan pengajaran Alkitab, baris demi baris, ajaran demi ajarannya… Luangkanlah waktu untuk membaca Alkitab tiap-tiap hari, …pelajari dan taatilah firman Allah… Biarlah tema percakapan kita berpusat pada topik-topik Alkitab. “Yang terutama, luangkanlah waktu untuk membaca Alkitab—yang adalah Kitab dari segala kitab. Mempelajari Alkitab tiap-tiap hari memiliki pengaruh yang menguduskan dan membangkitkan semangat dalam pikiran. Rekatkanlah Alkitab itu ke dalam hati kita. Itu akan terbukti menjadi sahabat dan penuntun bagi kita dalam kebingungan.” CT 138.3.
“Pengetahuan sejati tentang Alkitab hanya dapat diperoleh melalui pertolongan Roh Kudus yang telah memberikan firman itu. Dan untuk memperoleh pengetahuan ini, kita harus hidup olehnya. Semua yang diperintahkan firman Allah harus kita taati. Semua yang dijanjikannya dapat kita klaim. Kehidupan yang diperintahkannya adalah kehidupan yang, melalui kuasanya, harus kita jalani. Hanya dengan berpegang teguh pada Alkitab, maka Alkitab dapat berguna dalam pembelajarannya. Ed. 189.2.
“Mempelajari Alkitab harus dengan upaya kita yang paling tekun dan pemikiran yang tekun. Sebagaimana penambang menggali harta emas di dalam bumi, demikian pula dengan sungguh-sungguh dan gigih, kita harus mencari harta firman Allah.” Ed. 189.3.
“Dalam pembelajaran sehari-hari, metode ayat demi ayat seringkali sangat membantu. Hendaknya pelajarnya mengambil satu ayat, dan memusatkan pikirannya untuk menemukan renungan yang telah Allah tanamkan dalam ayat itu baginya, lalu merenungkannya hingga menjadi miliknya sendiri. Satu bagian yang dipelajari dengan cara demikian hingga maknanya jelas adalah lebih berharga daripada sekedar membaca banyak pasal tanpa tujuan yang jelas dan tanpa memperoleh pelajaran positif.” Ed 189.4.
“So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” Nehemiah 8:8 (KJV).

“A true knowledge of the Bible can be gained only through the aid of that Spirit by whom the word was given. And in order to gain this knowledge we must live by it. All that God’s word commands, we are to obey. All that it promises, we may claim. The life which it enjoins is the life that, through its power, we are to live. Only as the Bible is thus held can it be studied effectively.” Ed 189.2.
“The study of the Bible demands our most diligent effort and persevering thought. As the miner digs for the golden treasure in the earth, so earnestly, persistently, must we seek for the treasure of God’s word.” Ed 189.3.
“In daily study the verse-by-verse method is often most helpful. Let the student take one verse, and concentrate the mind on ascertaining the thought that God has put into that verse for him, and then dwell upon the thought until it becomes his own. One passage thus studied until its significance is clear is of more value than the perusal of many chapters with no definite purpose in view and no positive instruction gained.” Ed 189.4.***
