IMAN YANG MENYELAMATKAN JIWA
“Karena iman maka Rahab, perempuan sundal itu, tidak turut binasa bersama-sama dengan orang-orang durhaka, karena ia telah menyambut pengintai-pengintai itu dengan baik.” Ibrani 11:31.
“Iman yang membawa kepada keselamatan bukanlah iman yang asal-asalan, bukan sekadar persetujuan akal budi, melainkan kepercayaan yang berakar di dalam hati, yang menerima Kristus sebagai Juruselamat pribadi, yakin bahwa Ia dapat menyelamatkan sepenuhnya semua orang yang datang kepada Allah melalui Dia. Percaya bahwa Ia akan menyelamatkan orang lain, tetapi tidak akan menyelamatkan diri sendiri bukanlah iman yang sejati; tetapi ketika jiwa berpegang teguh pada Kristus sebagai satu-satunya harapan keselamatan, maka iman yang sejati terwujud. Iman ini menuntun pemiliknya untuk menempatkan segenap kasih sayang jiwa kepada Kristus; pemahamannya pun berada di bawah kendali Roh Kudus, dan tabiatnya dibentuk menurut rupa ilahi. Imannya bukanlah iman yang mati, tetapi iman yang bekerja melalui kasih, dan yang menuntunnya untuk melihat keindahan Kristus, dan untuk menjadi serupa dengan tabiat ilahi.” ST 6 Maret 1893, par. 6.
“Pasukan Israel yang maju mendapati bahwa pengetahuan tentang kuasa-kuasa Allah orang Ibrani telah mendahului mereka, dan bahwa beberapa orang di antara bangsa-bangsa kafir ternyata sedang belajar bahwa Dialah satu-satunya Allah yang benar. Di Yerikho yang jahat, kesaksian seorang perempuan kafir adalah, ‘TUHAN, Allahmu, Dialah Allah yang di surga dan di bumi.’ Yosua 2:11. Pengetahuan tentang Allah yang telah sampai kepadanya membuktikan keselamatannya. Karena iman, ‘Rahab tidak binasa bersama-sama dengan orang-orang durhaka (mereka yang tidak percaya).’ Ibrani 11:31. Dan pertobatannya bukanlah satu-satunya contoh dari belas kasihan Allah terhadap penyembah berhala yang mengakui otoritas ilahi-Nya. Di tengah-tengah negeri itu, banyak orang—orang Gibeon—meninggalkan kekafiran mereka, dan bersatu dengan Israel, berbagi berkat-berkat perjanjian.”

Semua manusia berasal dari satu keluarga melalui penciptaan, dan semua menjadi satu kembali melalui penebusan. Kasih itu mengangkat mereka yang telah tertipu oleh tipu daya Setan dari pengaruhnya, dan menempatkan mereka dalam jangkauan takhta Allah, takhta yang dikelilingi oleh pelangi perjanjian. “By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.” Hebrews 11:31 (KJV).
“The faith that is unto salvation is not a casual faith, it is not the mere consent of the intellect, it is belief rooted in the heart, that embraces Christ as a personal Saviour, assured that he can save unto the uttermost all that come unto God by him. To believe that he will save others, but will not save you is not genuine faith; but when the soul lays hold upon Christ as the only hope of salvation, then genuine faith is manifested. This faith leads its possessor to place all the affections of the soul upon Christ; his understanding is under the control of the Holy Spirit, and his character is molded after the divine likeness. His faith is not a dead faith, but a faith that works by love, and leads him to behold the beauty of Christ, and to become assimilated to the divine character.” ST March 6, 1893, par. 6.
“The advancing hosts of Israel found that a knowledge of the mighty workings of the God of the Hebrews had gone before them, and that some among the heathen were learning that he alone was the true God. In wicked Jericho the testimony of a heathen woman was, “The Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.” Joshua 2:11. The knowledge of Jehovah that had thus come to her, proved her salvation. By faith “Rahab perished not with them that believed not.” Hebrews 11:31. And her conversion was not an isolated case of God’s mercy toward idolaters who should acknowledge his divine authority. In the midst of the land a numerous people—the Gibeonites—renounced their heathenism, and united with Israel, sharing in the blessings of the covenant.”
